How about resolving to make a difference to the world we
live in? I mean the physical world – earth, water, air…
Humanity’s demand on the planet has more than doubled over
the past 45 years as a result of population growth and increasing individual
consumption. The resulting deforestation, water shortages, declining
biodiversity and climate change are putting the well-being and development of
all nations at increasing risk. If our demands on the planet continue at the
same rate, by the mid-2030s we will need the equivalent of two planets to
maintain our lifestyles. Humanity’s demand on the planet’s living resources, its
Ecological Footprint, now exceeds the planet’s regenerative capacity by about
30 per cent. This global overshoot is growing and, as a consequence, ecosystems
are being run down and waste is accumulating in the air, land and water. The
direct, anthropogenic threats to biodiversity are:
- Habitat loss, fragmentation or change, especially due to agriculture
- Overexploitation of species, especially due to fishing and hunting
- Pollution
- The spread of invasive species or genes
- Climate change
How can we make a difference?
In a number of ways – as individuals and as a company.
The elements of some Go Green strategy are: - Reduce consumption with responsible use of resources
- Re-engineer existing infrastructure and systems for optimal use of energy
- Recycle consumed materials wherever possible
- Reuse recycled material as much as possible
- Renew resources with proactive initiatives
What do you think we should do as a individual ?
Would you be interested in volunteering towards this cause?
What thoughts do you have to reduce environmental impact as
individuals and families?
How can we make a difference in the societies we live in?
Let the ideas flow in.
